essential oil dog spray

Stinky dog? No need to fill up the tub for a battle of the baths, just follow this tip from Get Lick’d Eco-Friendly Dog to keep your dog smelling great in between bath time.

Did you know you should only bathe your dog about every month or so? With organic shampoo , obvi. It may sound gross but natural oils are your dog’s friend ... you don’t want to wash them away too often. So a simple solution to keep him smelling clean and fresh is a scented coat spray. Sure, you can buy them at pet stores but most conventional mists are filled with chemicals like phthalates and parabens which leach into his skin and alcohol that sucks his coat and skin dry. By making your own with essential oils, you’ll keep him healthy sans chemicals, hydrate his skin and coat with natural oils, save water (about 5-10 gallons per wash), and make him smell lovely for weeks. Our favorite essential oil is lavender which is also great for relieving stress and calming your dog before bed and trips. Try it yourself!

Green Your Dog DIY Essential Oil Mist

1 small spray bottle (about 1-2 ounces)

1 ounce of warm water

3-4 drops of your favorite essential oil, i.e. lavender, eucalyptus, jasmine, coconut

How To:

If you are using an old spray bottle, make sure it’s thoroughly cleaned and dried. Fill with one ounce of warm water. Carefully add 3-4 drops of the essential oil of your choice and put the cap back on. Shake vigorously and mist your dog’s coat about 6-inches from his hair. Rub it in with your hands or brush through. The scent should last a week or so. Shake vigorously before each use.

If you don’t love your own concoction, pick up a scented pooch spray at your pet stores. Just make sure the ingredients are eco-friendly. That means no dyes, perfumes, parabens, phthalates, or alcohol.
