It's Salsa Season!

When you need a quick dinnertime solution on a hot summer day, pick up some salsa at your local natural and organic food store. Yesterday’s recipe for Tequila-Lime Corn & Bean Salad demonstrates how versatile it can be, and there are so many flavors to choose from—from the traditional mild and hot to the popular green salsa verde (made with tomatillos) and pico de gallo (extra chunky). Fruit salsas have also become a culinary trend, in flavors that substitute mangos, pineapple and cherries for tomatoes. Here are some novel ways to use a container of salsa, courtesy of the experts at Pace:

  •  Think Beyond Chips & Dip. Salsa can be used in any component of your summer menu: appetizers, salad dressings and main dishes.
  • Love Me Tender. As a marinade, salsa can turn grilled meats and vegetables into a gourmet experience. It’s a quick way to add flavor and tenderize meats. Brush salsa on grilled chicken, pork, seafood, shrimp, ground beef, steak and vegetables.
  • Dress It Up. Add salsa to your favorite salad or dressing. Salads are easy to throw together, even at the last minute, and they’re a great way to bring refreshing flavors to the table without weighing you down.
