Researchers at Barts and The London School of Medicine have discovered that drinking 17 fluid ounces of beet juice each day can significantly reduce blood pressure. The study, published in the American Heart Association journal Hypertension, could have major implications for treating cardiovascular disease. Professors Amrita Ahluwalia and Ben Benjamin found that ingesting a dietary nitrate found in beet juice decreases blood pressure. In healthy volunteers, blood pressure decreased within just 1 hour of ingesting juice, with a peak drop within 3–4 hours after ingestion. Some degree of reduction was observed up to 24 hours after ingestion. More than 25% of the world’s adult population is hypertensive; this percentage is projected to increase to 29% by 2025. Hypertension causes about 50% of coronary heart disease and 75% of strokes. Prof. Ahluwalia’s research highlights the potential for a natural, low-cost approach to help treat cardiovascular disease. But if you’re on antihypertensive medication, please check with your healthcare provider before changing your treatment regimen. If you don’t have a home juicer (or your local juice bar doesn’t carry fresh beet juice), Rapunzel markets an organic beet juice , available at select natural and organic food stores . You can also purchase it online through Efood Pantry ...

Healthy Organic Diet New Orleans LA
Those of us who shop for organic food are usually pretty good about watching our salt intake. I’m certainly not anti-sodium (a main component of salt), as it’s essential to keeping the body functioning, but I tend to watch my salt intake.
